Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn

Twilight is a pop culture phenomenon that is sweeping the nation.  It is a series of books that are currently being put into film. All of the major conflicts can be put into one of three categories: a progressing love triangle between Bella, Edward, and Jacob, controversies between different vampire covens and various werewolf packs, and the final category is controversies between super humans and “regular” humans. 

Isabella Swan (Bella)  to Forks, Washington from Phoenix, Arizona to stay with her dad while her mom heads out on the road with her step father, a minor league baseball player named Phil Dwyer.  Bella is the subject of much attention at her new school and quickly makes friends in spite of her shy tendencies.  Also several boys start to get into conflicts vying for the attention of Bella.  When she first goes to school her lab partner Edward Cullen seems intriguing to Bella but sadly it appears as though she disgust him.  After a odd string of absences on Edwards part he returns and quickly befriends Bella.  The story continues on until one fateful day Bella is in the school parking lot and is almost run over by a car but is miraculously saved by Edward who somehow came out of nowhere and stopped the car with just his hand.

 Determined to discover how he saved her Bella starts incessantly questioning Edward to no avail.  After a talk with Jacob about the local area and a few legends Bella arrives at the conclusion That Edward and his family are Vampires.  After a little more investigation and a small adventure through the woods she discovers that Edward and his family drink the blood of animals as opposed to humans.  As their love develops Edward confides in Bella that he did not despise her, but actually it was that his blood lust towards her was insatiable earlier.

As they decided to let their love develop Bella was taken along to play a baseball game with Edward and the Cullens.  During their adrenalin packed game another vampire coven descends upon them.  A tracker vampire, named James along with Laurent and Victoria decided that Edwards and Bella’s relationship is quite interesting and decide that James will hunt Bella for sport.  In order to spread confusion amongst the trackers Edward and Bella Split up and Bella is stationed at a small hotel.  Shortly after her arrival she receives a phone call stating that her mother is currently being held captive and will not be released unless Bella gives herself to James. 

When she surrenders she is attacked by James and just as it looks like there is no hope for Bella.  Edward and the rest of the Cullens step in and destroy James, thus saving Bella, or so it would seem.  Sadly Bella was bitten during the encounter with James and Edward is faced with a daunting task;  he must suck the envenomed blood out of Bella but stop (in spite of his blood lust) before he kills her.  He succeeds in this task and saves his loves life. 

When they return to their hometown of Forks, Washington they attend their homecoming dance and Bella ask to become a vampire like Edward.  Edward refuses because he believes that Bella does not truly comprehend the dynamics of that choice.

New Moon opens up with Bella distressing how she is unhappy about her eighteenth birthday because that means that she will now be older than Edward; however when Edward takes Bella to the  Cullens house in her truck.  She received a radio for her truck, two plane tickets, amongst other things but while she was unwrapping one of her gifts she accidentally got a paper cut which caused Jasper (Edwards brother) to go into a blood frenzy and  because of the scent of the blood and attack Bella.  Luckily his attack was thwarted by Edward who cut in and saved Bella.  To further protect Bella, Edward ended their relationship and moved his family away, allegedly to L.A. which drove Bella into a depressed state because she was so in love with him.  As she continues on without him she discovers that she can do extreme and dangerous things to hear Edward (in the movie she can see him) in her head.  Also her and Jacob begin to have a closer bond and an increasingly strong friendship.

During this timeframe she learns that Jacob is a werewolf and this discovery only strengthens the bond between the two as Jacob tries to uplift Bella and support her while she is coping with her breakup.  Also during this time Laurent and Victoria make attempts on Bellas life due to the death of James ( victorias mate).  These attempts are nullified when Jacob and his fellow werewolves join the picture and save Bella.

While all this is going on Edward, fearing Bella is dead, is on his way to attempt suicide by enraging Volturi, a royal group of vampires located in Italy, some of the only creatures strong enough to kill him.  When Alice discovers Bella is still alive she rushes to get Bella and then take her to Italy to stop Edward from getting himself killed.

They do manage to get there in time.  However the Volturi learn of Bella and Edwards’s relationship and delivers the ultimatum that any human aware of the vampire presence must be turned or killed. 

When they get back to Washington Edward tells Bella how much he truly loves her and that all he has been trying to do was protect her.  After his confession she lets him know he is  forgiven and the Cullens decide that it would be better  to change her than to kill her.  When this decision is made Edward has an epiphany, he tells Bella he will change her if she will agree to marry him, otherwise Carlisle will change her at the end of her graduation.

This story starts while depicting an alarmingly high number of unsolved murders all going on in Seattle, Washington.  As Edward and Bella become increasingly aware of the proceedings Edward comes to the conclusion that he thinks a young vampire unable to control his/her bloodlust is to blame for the recent murder crimes.  Also since they are preparing to go to college Bella wants to go and see Jacob again in which Edward is hesitant because he doesn’t know if he can trust the werewolves can be trusted.  After Bella reassures him she begins to make several visits with Jacob. 

                While this drama is unfolding Alice ( one of the Cullens) sees that the vampire hunting Bella (Victoria) is returning to Forks, Washington.  Soon after Edward ask for Bellas hand in marriage, to which she says yes.  During their investigation Bella and the Cullens learn that these killings are due to the young group of vampires Victoria is controlling in an effort to shake things up and get revenge. 

                Knowing that they are outnumbered on their own, The Cullens and Bella join up with Jacob and the werewolves.  While the battle is commencing, a new werewolf character ( Seth Clearwater) is introduced when he joins Edward, Jacob, and Bella camping in the mountains.  On the next morning Jacob overhears the wedding plans of Bella and Edward and decides he will join the fight to end his life.  Bella has to then kiss him in an effort to get him to stay but in doing so she realizes she loves him also. 

                Meanwhile, while Victoria is battling she manages to get a hold of Edwards scent and follows it to where Bella is, this forces Edward to enter the battle.  The miniature war continues for a little but when its is over Bella has a talk with Jacob.

                There she tells him that she loves him but she loves Edward more (man girls are cruel) and that she will become a vampire upon marrying Edward.  This causes Jacob to go into an emo-ish fit and transform into a werewolf and run away to escape his anguish.

This book is written slightly different from the other three. It is primarily divided into three sections.

Firstly, Bella and Edward get married! They take their honeymoon out on a secluded private island close to Brazil. About midway through their honeymoon Bella discovers that she has become pregnant which is cause for concern as “monster” is being created. Bella convinces Edward that the fetus is not a monster but indeed their child and thusly should be born on moral principle. Edward, slightly hesitant, agrees and stops suggesting abortion. However the baby continues to grow unnaturally fast which doesn’t ease Edwards worries. They return to the forks.

The second part of Breaking Dawn is written from the view of Jacob Black. Jacob and his pack of werewolves decided to plan out how to destroy Bella’s unborn child. They felt that because it was unknown if the child would develop into a threat, as “immortal” children were typically uncontrollable, it would be best to dispatch it. Jacob becomes upset that when their plans are drawn up, it is decided that Bella must be killed. So he decides to dissent with Leah and Seth and start his own pack. Jacob finds Bella and Edward and is present for the birth where he “imprints” (something that happens whenever a werewolf finds their soul mate) on Renesmee(the newborn child).

The third and final part of Breaking Dawn goes back to Bellas P.O.V. during her pregnancy Edward was forced to inject his vampire venom into her heart to save her life because birthing Renesmee almost killed her. So now she is beginning to discover her powers and enjoy them. Sadly the royal Italian Volturi, under Irinas guidance, discover that the Cullens have what they believe to be an uncontrollable child, the punishment for which is death. Clans of Vampires team up in the Cullens defense and another half breed or “Mapuche” named Nahul is found and brought before the Volturi in an effort to save the Cullens and the newborn child. Irina is killed due to her insolence and the story ends happily ever after.  =)

As far as having potential for another book, I think there is. Due to Bella’s naivety and her being somewhat indecisive at times I think it is possible for her to discover something in Jacob she had missed before but be disappointed because he will have fallen for her daughter creating another love triangle but a far stranger one. I can honestly say that I never fathomed I would be reading any of this material or even writing about it, it is amazing the effects women have on us.lol
